Welcome
In Reception we want our children to come to school every day excited and interested to learn and play. We want the children to be ready to explore their surroundings, keen to develop their minds and understand the world around them. We will provide stimulating and challenging activities which ensure all children progress.
Curriculum Theme
This term Reception are exploring one of our favourite topics: ‘Traditional Tales’. We will be reading lots of well-known and well-loved fiction texts such as, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’.
We will be learning different styles of storytelling, alternative endings, characterisation as well as story sequencing and writing! We will be thinking about why and when things might happen and making use of vocabulary from stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems. We shall also be visiting ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
Mathematics:
This half term, we shall be covering the following topics in our Maths learning:
• Investigating rotating and manipulating shapes
• Exploring sharing and grouping
• Diving deeper doubles and odd/even
• Repeating and copying pattern
RE:
The title of the RE topic this half term is ‘What can we learn from stories’. With the help of our mascot Bertie the Owl, we will be exploring the morals and values of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism, through story and role play.
PSHE:
Our PSHE topic is all about changing. With the help of our PSHE buddy Jerrie, we are learning the names of our body parts, how to stay safe and healthy, how we grow from babies to adults and talking about any worried or excited feelings we may be experiencing about starting year one.
