Religious Education at St John’s

Our vision is to inspire curious, reflective and open-minded thinkers who develop a deep understanding of religion, belief, and worldviews. Through a rich, ambitious, and carefully sequenced Religious Education curriculum, children will gain a secure understanding of Christianity, explore major world faiths and non-religious worldviews, investigate sacred texts, and appreciate how beliefs shape lives, communities, and culture.

At St John’s , we encourage children to ask profound questions, explore differing perspectives, and appreciate the richness of a diverse society. By making meaningful connections between personal beliefs, local communities, and global faith traditions, children develop a strong sense of identity, respect for others, and an understanding of their place in our world.

Through progressive theological, philosophical, and human-social enquiry, children move from exploring personal experiences, special places, and stories in Reception to critically examining holy books, thinking about right and wrong, and sharing clear, well-explained ideas by the end of Year 6..

Our aim is for every child to leave primary school as a confident, respectful, and religiously literate thinker, equipped with the knowledge, empathy, and critical skills to understand, navigate, and contribute positively to a diverse world.
