Year 5/6 Footballers Qualify

On Monday 17th October the year 5/6 mixed football team completed in a hard fought battle against strong opposition at Cheslyn Hay High School.  The B team did not qualify to the next stage, however they showed great teamwork and camaraderie, never giving up! The A team started with a 5 - 0 win, followed by a 2 - 0 victory.  The third match was challenging and unfortunately Phoebe Nicholls could not take part (due to injury)

St John's were beaten 3 - 1. It was at this point when all the children gritted their teeth and wiped the sweat from their brow.  Showing tenacity and vigor the team qualified after a nail biting penalty shoot out.

#wecanplay Yr 3/4 Girls Runners Up at local tournament

On Friday 14th October, girls form year 3 and 4 took a trip to Long Lane representing St John's academy in a football tournament as part of the Football Associations girls #wecanplay week.

Several of the girls had not represented the academy before and were very excited about the forthcoming matches. Furthermore, only one of the girls plays competitive football, however that did not stop the sheer determination from all of the girls.

Over the four matches, we won two (6-0 and 5-0), drew one (1-1) and narrowly lost 2 - 1. These results meant that we finished as runners up at the tournament.

Girls qualify for St George's Park

The year 5/6 girls football team successfully gained qualification to the County finals which will be held at the prestigious national football training facility St George's Park in Burton.  All 24 girls in both teams were a credit to the school.

Our B team only lost one game and were really unlucky not to reach the final and this was a great achievement by the girls as some had not even played competitive football before.

The girls A team qualified by winning the regional competition which was held at Cheslyn Hay High School, where they competed against 9 other schools. In the tournament the girls advanced by reaching the final and not conceding a goal, winning every match. The final was very competitive and needed a penalty shoot out to determine the winners.
Our girls showed great composure under pressure securing qualification and winning the tournament.

 

 

Cross Country Success

The Year 3/4 cross country teams shared great success last week with year 3 boys and girls winning their team events. Charlotte Smith and Isaac Lewis both crossed the line in first place.

Furthermore, the year 4 boys and girls achieved the same success winning their team event. Ruby Buggins and James Hodgson once again finished in first place.

This means the school qualifies for the District final dates to be confirmed.
